EDITION N°2 — KLIPSCH

Hope, Arkansas — eight thousand people

Klipsch was born in 1946 in Hope, a town of eight thousand. Most production moved to Indianapolis in 2000, but the Heritage line is still assembled by hand there, never automated. The Klipschorn has been built in that same place for seventy years without interruption.

It is a sentence I repeat to every American maker I contact, and it lands every time. A small town, a line that was never automated, an object still made by hand: they understand immediately what we are talking about.

Plywood, copper, horn

Birch plywood and wood veneer — Klipschorn cabinets are hand-assembled joinery. Copper, the signature colour. And the geometry of the horn, the most recognisable shape the company owns.

Translating that onto a shoe is not obvious: as far as I know, no maker has a verifiable portfolio of wood veneer on a sneaker. That is exactly what makes this commission interesting.

Where we are

The maker has not been chosen. Several conversations are open with American makers, and the name will be announced when the commission is signed — not before. The pair will arrive after the issue, when it is ready.
